Endodontic treatment of mandibular canine with one root and two canals
Park Joon-Sang

Abstract
I.Introduction
Successful root canal treatment requires a thorough knowledge of tooth anatomy and root canal morphology. The aim of endodontic treatment is the elimination of infection from the root canal and the prevention of reinfection. Morphologic features of tooth may also adversely affect endodontic procedures. Many clinicians have the perception that a given tooth will contain a specific number of roots and canals. Careful evaluation of research materials has shown that variations in tooth morphology are common. In mandibular anterior teeth, prevalence of two or three root canal has been reported to be as low as 1% and as high as 43%. Mandibular canines are recognized as having one root and one root canal in majority of cases. The occurrence of two roots and even more than two canals is rare, ranging from 1 to 5%. This is a case presentation of mandibular canine with two canals.

II. Case Presentation
1.Sex/age : 56/M
2. Chief Complaint(C.C) : Referred from prosthodontic department due to a fistula and apical lesion on #43
3. Past Dental History(PDH) : RCT and PFM Crown on #43(5-6 years ago)
4. Present Illness(P.I) : #43 Per(-), Mob(-), Pal(-), PA lesion(+), intraoral sinus tract on buccal gingiva,
incompletely canal filled
5. Impression : Chronic apical periodontitis on #43
6. TxPlan : #43 Re-RCT(if fails ?apico surgery)

III. Conclusion
This case presents a Re-RCT of multiple canals in mandibular canine. The success of endodontic outcome depends on the use of available diagnostic tools to locate and treat the entire root canal system. Failure to locate and treat extra canal is the most common causes for failure of root canal treatment. To minimize the chance of missing canals, clinicians shouldknow the variations of canal morphology and number. Understanding the tooth anatomic variations is essential for better and successful endodontic treatment. Radiographs and magnification devices are important tools in diagnosing and treating such a case.
